Small talk with Locked Groove

Some chatter with one of Kompakt's newest talents, Locked Groove. The Belgian artist is known for his note-perfect balance between house and techno, but there is more about him than just the music.

If you can invent one thing, what would it be?
I think it would be a perpetual motion machine. I've always been fascinated with the idea of it.
A machine that you could just swing into motion, and that would keep on going by itself ad infinitum is a concept that I can't really wrap my head around.

Do you rather play two hours or ten?
Ten for sure. I love playing two hours as well, but 10 hours would give me all the room to build, take back down and build again as much as I like.

How many hours do you spend on your music?
I'd say upwards of 40 hours a week. I usually play about 3 hours of piano every day. After that I'll leave for the studio and depending on my mood, spend about 7-8 hours there. So I'd say anywhere in between 50-60 hours a week.

And on your phone?
I don't really have a clue as to how long in hours, but it's too much for sure.

Do you love or hate your phone?
I neither love or hate it. It's something that's very handy for looking up stuff, or even checking promos on the road. I like putting stuff up there and just listening to it while I'm traveling or going to the gym. It does get a bit too much sometimes because it's literally always on. That's when the hate might get the upper hand.

Getting up early or sleeping in?
Both, sometimes I like sleeping in. But I equally love it when i get up early and get all my stuff done. It gives me a sense of accomplishment, haha.

Favourite food?
Tough one. But being Belgian i´ll go with Beef tartar with Fries.

You played at DGTL before, what/where was your favourite time playing with us?
I've only played once at the festival in Amsterdam. I really enjoyed it. I remember it being a bit cold outside and a bit rainy so the tent was fully packed with people ready to party and get warm.

Where would you like to go with us further? A bucket list spot or country?
If it's warm, sunny I'm in. Summer´s just out the door, but I can't wait to catch some again soon.

What other artist are you excited for to see during DGTL ADE?
Danny Daze is someone I've always missed when he was playing in Berlin. So really looking forward to see him play for the first time!
